THE TOWER OF BABEL

of one language, and speech

whose top may reach unto
heaven; and let us make us a

abroad upon the face of the

to see the city and the tower,

them abroad from thence
upon the face of all the

THING

anger of the LORD was
kindled against the children
of Israel
2) And Joshua sent men
from Jericho to Ai, which is
beside Beth-aven, on the
east side of Beth-el, and
spake unto them, saying, go
up and view the country. And
the men went up and viewed
Ai
3) And they returned to
Joshua and said unto him, let
not all the people go up; but
let about two or three
thousand men go up and
smite Ai; and make not all
the people to labor three
but few
4) So there went up thither
of the people about three
thousand men; and they fled
before the men of Ai
accursed: neither will I be
with you any more, except ye
destroy the accused from
among you
13) Up, sanctify the people.
And say, Sanctify yourselves
against tomorrow; for thus
saith the LORD GOD of Israel,
there is an accursed thing in
the midst of thee O Israel;
thou canst not stand before
thine enemies, until ye take
away the accursed thing from
among you
14) In the morning therefore
ye shall be brought according
to your tribes; and it shall be
that the tribe which the
LORD taketh shall come
according to the family
thereof; and the family which
the LORD shall take shall
come by households; and the
household which the LORD
shall take shall come man by
man
15) And it shall be, that he
that is taken with fire, he and
all that he hath; because he
hath transgressed the

people melted, and became
as water
6) And Joshua rent his

LORD GOD, wherefore hast
thou at all brougth this
people over Jordan, to
deliver us into the hand of
the Amorites, to destroy us?
Would to GOD we had been
content, and dwelt in other
side of Jordan?
8) O LORD, what shall I say
when Israel turneth their
backs before their enemies!
9) For the Canaanites and all
the inhabitants of the land
shall hear it, and shall
environ us around, and cut
off our name from the earth:
and what wilt thou do unto
thy great name?
10) And the LORD said unto
Joshua, get thee up:
wherefore liest thou thus
upon thy face?
11) Israel hath sinned, and
they have also transgressed
my covenant which I
commanded them for they
have even taken of the
accrued thing and have also
stolen, and dissembled also,
and they have put it even
among their own stuff

were round about them, and
bowed themselves unto

LORD to anger

and as the LORD had sworn
unto them; and they were
greatly distressed

THE SIN OF ELI’S SONS
22) Now Eli was very old,
and heard all that his sons
did unto all Israel: and how
they lay with the women that
assembled at the door of the
tabernacle of the
congregation
23) And he said unto them
why do ye such things? For i
hear of your evil dealings by
all this people
24)Nay, my sons: for it is no
good report that I hear; ye
make the LORD’S people to

another, the judge shall

14) And he struck it into the
pan ,or kettle, or caldron, or

himself so they did in Shiloh
unto all the Israelites that
came thither

GOD unto ELI, and said unto
him thus saith the LORD, did I
plainly appear unto the
house of thy father, when
they were in Egypt in
pharaoh’s house?
28) And did I choose him out
of all the tribes of Israel to be
my priest to offer upon mine

an ephod before me? And
did I give unto the house of
thy father all the offerings
made by fire of the children
of Israel?

fled before the Philistine, and
there hath been also a great
slaughter among the people,
, and thy two sons also,
Hophni and Phinehas are
dead, and the ark of GOD is

18) And it came to pass,
when he made mention of
the ark of GOD, that he fell
from of the seat backward by
the side of the gate, and his
neck brake, and he died for
he was and old man , and
heavy, And he had judged

him, let them not fail to burn
the fat presently, and then
take as would answer him,
nay; but thou shalt give it me
now: and if not, I will take it
by force
17) Wherefore the sin of the
young men was very great
before the LORD; for men
abhorred the offering of the

20) And Eli blessed Elkanah
and his wife, and said, the
LORD give thee seed of this

went unto their own home
21) And the LORD visited
Hannah, so that she
conceived, and bare three
sons and two daughters, and
the child Samuel grew before
the LORD
29) Wherefore kick ye at my
sacrifice and at mine offering,
which I have commanded in
my habitation; and honorest
thy sons above me, to make
make yourselves fat with the
chiefest of all the offerings of
Israel my people?
30) Wherefore the LORD
GOD of Israel saith, I said
indeed that thy house, and
the house of thy father
should walk before me for
ever; but now the LORD saith
, be it far from me for them
that honor me I will honor,
and they that despise me

THE CALL OF SAMUEL

Samuel answered, speak: for

Samuel, Behold I will do a

both the ears of every one
that heareth it shall tingle
12) In that day I will perform
against Eli all things which I
have spoken concerning his
house; when I begin, I will
also make an end
13) For I have told him that I
will judge his house for ever

for the iniquity which he
knoweth because his sons
made themselves vile, and he
restrained them not
14) And therefore I have
sworn unto the house of Eli,
that the iniquity of Eli’s
house shall not be purged
with sacrifice nor offering for
ever

THE ACT TO MURDER URIAH
BY DAVID THE SIN
14)And it came to pass in the
morning, that David wrote a
letter to Joab, and sent it by
the hand of Uriah
15) And he wrote in the
letter, saying, set ye Uriah in
the forefront of the hottest
battle, and retire ye from
him, that he may be smitted,
and ,die
16)And it came to pass,
when Joab Observe the City,
that he assigned Uriah unto a
place where he knew that
valiant men were
17) And the men of the city
went out, and fought with
Joab; and there fell some of
the people of the servants of
David; and Uriah the Hittite
died also

and dressed it for the man

DAVID SIN REVELED BY
NATHAN
7)And Nathan said to David
thou art the man. Thus saith
the LORD GOD of Israel, I
anointed the king over Israel,
and I delivered thee out of
the hand of Saul
8) And I gave thee thy
master’s house, and the
master’s wives into thy
bosom, and gave thee the
house of Israel and Judah;
and if that had been too
little, I would moreover have
given unto thee such and
such things
9) Wherefore hast thou
despised the Commandment
of the LORD to do evil in his
sight? Thou hast killed Uriah
the Hittite with the sword
and hast taken his wife to be
thy wife, and hast slain him
with the sword of the
children of Ammon

a tent upon the top of the
house and Absalom went in
unto his father’s concubines

despised me, and hast taken
the wife of Uriah the Hittite

behold, I will raise up evil
against thee out of thine own
house, and I will take thy
wives before thine eyes, and
give them unto thy neighbor,
and he shall lie with thy
wives in the sight of this sun
